"creation is an inherant part of my nature- art is my air, creativity my earth"

Artist statement and Bio

I am currently at the end of the second year of a B.A.(Hons) in Visual Art, having    decided to expand my horizons further, along with my  small business.

I have always been driven to create, doing so brings balance, joy and  focus to my life. Whether it is art, photography or wire-working,I am never more excited than when experimenting with new techniques and materials.
My intention as a creative is to allow the viewer to experience beauty, curiosity, and     surprise; to feel compelled to keep looking for new depths, relate to the narrative and moved by the journey.
rarely begin with sketches, but rather with a vision in my mind. As I work, I listen for thematerial to tell me how it wants to be worked, and so the composition evolves; shapes become organic, geometric, or a combination. Much of my work reflects the colours and textures of nature, often inspired by photos I have taken on my travels.

At a very young age, I was influenced by my mother, a dress-making teacher and artist. I would learn to be creative with off-cuts of material, paper, wool and found materials.  This became my foundation for my curiosity in materials and their qualities. My pursuit of finding a way to use a new medium to its best is endless, and as a consequence, my work is ever-changing and evolving.
My introduction into sculpture has inspired further experimentation, and my imagination strains with the endless possibilities. As my work becomes more 3D in nature, so does the variety of materials worked within it- wire, clay, felt or plastic, nothing is beyond consideration. Even though this learning curve often bears unwanted results, sometimes the diversity of the materials offer a rewarding outcome.
I work in a way that satisfies my need to create something tangible and unique. I am lucky to have several places to work, and relate to my creations differently in each environment, giving  advantage to further develop a piece with new influences. My studio is full  of a multitude of materials just crying out to be used in the next project, and to calm my compulsive need to create, I may have several pieces in progress at any one time.
